Following the publication of the QISMET Diabetes Self Management Education (DSME) last month, we are now able to invite providers of both pediatric and adult diabetes education to apply for certification.
Proposed changes in the healthcare system combined with the increasing number of people living with a long term condition are very likely to lead to increased demand for self management and self care services, resulting in expansion of the number of organisations entering the market, many with little or no previous experience.
In a situation where ‘any qualified provider’ may be contracted, QISMET certificated providers will have an important competitive edge as commissioners will know that the quality of the service they offer has been independently verified.
QISMET has just published the Diabetes Self Management Education (DSME) Quality Standard. David Cavan, Consultant Physician at Bournemouth Diabetes and Endocrine Centre, Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Trust and member of the DSME Standard Project Team and kindly agreed to write a foreword for the Standard document. In his foreword David explains why the development of the Diabetes Self Management Edcuation Standard is high quality self management education will be of benefit to diabetes education providers, and for people living with diabetes. You can read David's foreword by clicking on DSME Quality Standard and going to page 5 of the document.
